The waters surrounding the Isles and Cays of the Hawksbill Creek boasts of Mangroves and Blue Holes.   The Mangroves rear and protect many aquatic species.  The Isles and Cays are also home to a diverse population of birds and trees.

    The Islands of The Bahamas sit in a hurricane zone and in 1999, 2004  and 2005 different hurricanes that created high storm surges hit various parts of The Bahamas.   In two years of the last 40 years Queens Cove was affected by storm surges. That represented an approximate 5% chance that over that 40 year period a storm surge would have impacted Queens Cove.

    Queens Cove is NOT a flood zone.  It does not flood during heavy rains nor during every hurricane.  Grand Bahama has had many hurricanes and only in the rare case of high storm surges created by major hurricanes that approach from the north will the people residing on the northern shores of Grand Bahama have a need to be concerned.
